Inspired by the saying "you can take a mule to water but you can't make him drink." Mary put her own spin on the message with this Mule to Water piece. It is made completely out of repurposed wood, and she paints directly onto it. 

After losing four relatives to a house fire in February 1995, "Missionary" Mary Proctor was visited by an angelic voice that asked her to paint a door. Once that door was completed, she sold it to an art collector. Fascinated by her work, more doors were commissioned and thus began her career as a folk artist. Since that time, Mary has painted compulsively on either repurposed materials or canvas. Every art piece is one-of-a-kind and painted by Mary herself.
