Lonnie and Twyla Money were both born in Laurel County, Kentucky. Lonnie is descended from Jacob Money, a 19th-century Swiss immigrant who had been a wood carver in the old country. Twyla Darty, whose family has farmed in Kentucky for generations, grew up a mile away from the house and hilly farm where she and Lonnie live now on Money Road. Carving out of wood, the Money's paint and sculpture a colorful Kingfisher with a fish in its mouth, standing on a piece of Driftwood.
