The Japanese word kohaku means "Red and White", and it can also refer to a variety of ornamental koi fish with a white body and red markings. Kohaku are one of the earliest varieties of koi and are part of the "Big 3" grouping of koi known as Gosanke, along with Sanke and Showa.
